Marrakech the definition of exotic

We arrived in Marrakech today. Only pictures can tell the story.

After our kind 'driver' took us as far as we could go by car we continued on foot through ancient passageways with burros clomping by and mopeds whizzing past causing us to literally jump out of the way. Our eyes were wide but grew even wider as we beheld the inner courtyard of our Riad (guesthouse).

A detail from one of the ceiling panels:

We went out at dusk to walk the 'Souks' or ancient market stalls; we experienced firsthand what it was like to be alive in the Middle Ages. Our favorite thing to see? Obi-Wan-Kenobis' are everywhere! Men wear capes straight out of Star Wars' costume wardrobe. We have to pinch keep pinching ourselves to make our eyes believe what we're seeing is real and not props.

The kids wanted to go deeper and deeper into the Souk; we would go on to reach the busiest plaza in Africa.

Here's what we saw along the way:

This is no museum door, it's a functioning passageway with an 'Obi-Wan' bending down in the middle of the doorway.

Miniature little shoes for keychains.

We're on the hunt for a dagger.

If we saw one we saw a million- it seems possible that if we rubbed on even one that a Genie might float out and grant us our wishes.

J invited catcalls, hugs and so many pats on the head for the 'Barca' jersey he was wearing (for non-soccer fans it is Barcelona's amazing team and archenemy of Real Madrid. Apparently Moroccans are as divided in their loyalty between the two as Spaniards. J was literally like a walking emissary because of the jersey.)

Here's a shoemaker's way of showing his team spirit.

Goodnight.
